Adam Carolla: It Took 10 Days To Hear About The Armed Dad Who Stopped The Oregon School Shooter

Adam Carolla says he went 10 days before he heard about the concealed carry father who ran into his daughters' elementary school and took down the shooter, and that he knows exactly why the story didn't get more airtime, according to a clip posted Thursday by The Vigilant Fox:

The father is Kaylub Giamanco, 36, a carpenter and military veteran from Bend, Oregon. On Oct. 15, a 16-year-old former student shot his way into Silver Rail Elementary, and the attack killed three children, ages 5, 8 and 11, and a teacher, according to Oregon Public Broadcasting. Police say the teen fired as many as 15 rounds from a pump-action shotgun.

Giamanco, whose two daughters attend the school, followed the gunman inside with his legally secured .40-caliber pistol and shot him. A teacher had already thrown her phone at the teen, tackled him and fought for the gun, Bend Police Chief Mike Krantz said at a press conference: "We owe you a debt of gratitude."

Giamanco later told Oregon Public Broadcasting he crawled in through a broken-out window, looked into a special-needs classroom and saw the teacher struggling with the gunman, who had a rifle. He pushed open the door, stepped in and fired. Police arrived within minutes and found the shooter dead.

The story did not go unreported. President Trump called Giamanco "a great hero" at the White House the day after the shooting, saying "thank goodness for a man that had a gun and knew how to use it," and NBC News and The New York Times ran his account. What Carolla describes is when it reached him, not a news blackout, and the clip is his opinion of why.

Police have not announced a motive, and the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said the case shows an armed citizen with a concealed carry license stepping in to prevent more deaths, as Guns America reported.
